I'm here to celebrate all things Biosolids (treated poop, aka treated sewage sludge). They have a very important role in our society (sanitation makes clean water and these great solids). I'm going Public with a Passion that is a bit of the Public Recycled (you and me)! Science and Nature agree, but yet Biosolids are one of Society's biggest secrets! No more! Treated poop is Biosolids and Biosolids Grow (among other talents)!!
A local, green, renewable, sustainable alternative to synthetic fertilizers. Biosolids build soil health, healthy plants, improve water quality, and sequester lots of carbon. They come from what passes though you and me and are treated to ensure safety for recycling.
Decades of peer-reviewed science and ongoing university research continue to demonstrate that all the "good stuff" that Biosolids is and does for people and the environment far outweighs trivial risk and "yuck" perceptions.
Biosolids build healthy soils with organic matter for soil structure, beneficial microbes, has manure-strength macro nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), and a long list of vital micro nutrients. Biosolids retain water soil moisture to reduce run off and thereby improving water quality.
Healthy soil means healthy plants (see detailed blog article). Plants fed with nutritious biosolids are strong and healthy in order to fend of diseases and pests.
Synthetic fertilizers can't compete with Mother Nature. Man can not create a complete nutritious supplement for soil and plants - it has to come from nature. Animals eat healthy and that processed material cycles back to the soil - it's just nature even if it comes from humans. The Chinese called this practice Night Soil. Now we treat the solids for safety, but the concept is the same. Full cycle recycling. Sustainable.
And, of course, we as Society need to do our part. Be responsible stewards. Nature is just passing through us. Let's keep it clean. Flush only what you would have comeback to you. Toilet Karma?
